NEW TRAILER - BIUTIFUL starring Javier Bardem
September 14th 2010 13:33
We were all terrified by Javier Bardem's mesmerizing, Oscar winning performance as the new face of evil in No Country For Old Men, seduced by him in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, with his romantic view of the world and endlessly captivated by his Spanish performances in Extasis, Jamon Jamon, The Sea Inside and Live Flesh.
Javier Bardem has now won Best Actor at this years prestigious Cannes Film Festival in his much talked about, latest dynamite performance in BIUTIFUL which is generating Oscar buzz for him once again.
Directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who knocked us all out with the powerhouse combo of his brilliant debut, Amores Perros and then 21 Grams, followed by the lesser accomplished but admirable, Babel. Inarritu directs Biutiful, severing his regular collaboration with writer Guillermo Arriaga who wrote all of Inarritu's previous films.
Biutiful follows the story of a Uxbal (Bardem), a man involved in illegal activity who is confronted by an old childhood friend, who is now a police officer.
Apparently Biutiful is heavy going, which is to be expected from Inarritu, but Inarritu has, since his debut, proved to be one of the most important new directors working in cinema today. Biutiful looks like a film that intends to harrow the depths of our soul in a draining and emotionally honest way - which if you ask me is some thing that main stream cinema needs more than ever at the moment.
I look forward to this and shall keep my eyes peeled regarding it's theatrical release date which should be soon.

Film & TV on DVD
The names attached make it a potentially powerful experience. 21 Grams and Amores Perros are both astonishing works of introspection.
I have the unpopular opinion that my fave Javier performance is in Perdita Durango, so much menace there.
