An invitation – come see my film @ Newtown Film Festival
May 27th 2010 16:12
It’s been one year since my short film ‘The Black Dog’ was snowed in amongst the many other short films at the Cannes Film Festival’s short film corner, since then screenings of it have taken place at the Palm Springs Short Film Fest and the Melbourne Underground Film Festival (which also screened my previous film the year before that in their feature film competition section).
This will be the first time one of my film’s have screened in my hometown of Sydney and I’d like to have you there!
The Black Dog was made under unusual circumstances, in 2008 I experienced an event that changed everything for me personally. Fuelled by a burning desire to create something out of the raw emotions I was experiencing, I shot a film armed only with $100 and shot it in one day. The Black Dog is a 15 minute short film that is an example of extremely personal film making.
The Black Dog was inspired by the Tom Noonan film What Happened Was…, as well as David Cronenberg’s film Spider.
The Black Dog tells the story of a young woman who is in a confused and drug addled state, she invites her neighbour in from next door - her desperation causes him to at once feel repelled and yet also sympathetic towards her - resulting in a most unusual encounter. The Black Dog is the story of what we do with our memories, how they can paralyse us or how they can suddenly change everything we know.
The Black dog screens on the 5th of June @ Newtown Film Festival
Saturday at the 2:30 slot, it’s the opening film for that slot and is then followed by a few other short films afterwards. Arrive a little earlier to secure an entry ticket and seat
PACT Theatre

Look forward to seeing you there.

glad you could make it out, yes thanks for voting, the check's in the mail. I tell you what aside from getting the nomination the best thing about that experience of the screening in the finals was getting to watch it with an audience about 100 people on the final night the second time. It really strongly high lighted what I should shorten and what I should perhaps cut out.
Thanks for coming and yes, great meeting too.
